Nissan Sentra vs Toyota Corolla

We Sized up the Compact Sentra, and it Rises Head and Shoulders above the Small-Sedan Competition

You don't have to give up a lot for the sake of driving a smaller vehicle anymore. Investing in a more fuel efficient, more easily maneuverable car doesn't have to be a game of picking what sort of creature comforts you'll have to sacrifice. That's why there are more amply-equipped compact sedans nowadays, like the Nissan Sentra -- except that there isn't anything else exactly like the Sentra on the market.

This five-passenger compact is notably upscale for the price and much more spacious than its exterior dimensions let on. It's also much easier for St Paul, Grove Heights, Burnsville, Minneapolis and Twin Cities area drivers to get one of these small sedans because they're available right in their own backyard, here at our Maplewood, MN Nissan dealership.

Just to show you how the Sentra is able to so easily win over drivers, we compared it to the compact Corolla and reported our findings below:

The Nissan Sentra versus the Toyota Corolla

  • Right off the bat, the Sentra catches the consumer's eye with a lower starting price than that of the Corolla. What's better than more cash in your pocket after investing in a more well-equipped vehicle?
  • Speaking of more fancy features, the Sentra comes standard with such driver-centric items as LED brake lights, automatic headlights and cruise control with steering wheel controls. The Corolla doesn't even offer automatic headlights or LED tail lamps, and you have to pay more for cruise control.
  • The Sentra and Corolla both come equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, but the Sentra's is more efficient regardless of if you choose the manual or automatic transmission.
  • As for convenience features, the Sentra comes standard with a radio data system and remote keyless entry, while the Corolla doesn't.
  • With the Sentra, you don't have to climb that lengthy trim ladder to gain access to fog lights, illuminated door sills or a spoiler. You can tack them onto the base model -- but you can't with the Corolla.
  • Thanks in part to a taller frame, the Sentra offers greater interior and cargo volume, as well as more front headroom and legroom than the Corolla. If you're especially tall or have more junk for your car's trunk, you'll want to try the Sentra on for size.
